With different weapons, picking the best one for your playstyle can be a challenge. I’ve come up with a tier list based on how these weapons perform in both solo and multiplayer sessions. Whether you’re a new hunter or an experienced one, this list will give you an idea of what weapons are worth your time and which ones might need a little more practice to get the most out of them.

Monster Hunter Wilds Tier List

Tier Weapons
S Bow, Heavy Bowgun, Long Sword
A Dual Blades, Charge Blade, Sword & Shield, Insect Glaive, Hammer, Light Bowgun, Great Sword
B Gunlance, Switch Axe, Lance, Hunting Horn
C Sword & Shield, Hunting Horn, Lance

S-Tier Weapons

Bow

The Bow is my go-to weapon when I want to stay at a distance while still dealing powerful damage. Its mobility and ability to inflict status effects are excellent, and the ability to constantly move around while firing makes it one of the most versatile ranged weapons in the game.

Heavy Bowgun

I absolutely love the Heavy Bowgun for its ability to deal insane amounts of damage, especially with explosive ammo. The weapon has a steep learning curve, but once you understand how to use it effectively, you can easily melt through even the toughest monsters. Plus, the range it offers is perfect for dealing with monsters that prefer to keep their distance.

Long Sword

For those who want to balance speed, damage, and defense, the Long Sword is an ideal choice. It has a bit of a learning curve, but once you understand how to charge the Spirit Gauge and unleash devastating attacks, it becomes an incredibly satisfying weapon. It’s also a bit forgiving for new players, making it a great starting weapon.

A-Tier Weapons

Dual Blades

The Dual Blades are perfect for players who love speed and mobility. They’re incredibly fast, and with the right timing, you can rack up a ton of damage in no time. I love how quick you can switch between your attacks, and once I’m in Archdemon Mode, I feel like an unstoppable force.

Charge Blade

The Charge Blade is all about timing and managing both sword and shield modes. It’s a more technical weapon but offers powerful charged attacks that can decimate monsters once you understand its mechanics. It’s one of the most rewarding weapons when you pull off a well-timed charge combo.

Sword & Shield

The Sword & Shield is an excellent all-around weapon that balances offense and defense. I can block incoming attacks with the shield while still dishing out damage with the sword. It’s also versatile, allowing me to use items while in combat, making it great for support play or solo hunts.

Insect Glaive

I love the Insect Glaive for its aerial combat and the ability to use Kinsects. It lets me fly around monsters, dodging attacks and landing blows from above. It’s definitely a fun weapon to use once you get the hang of it, especially when you start managing the buffs from your Kinsects.

Hammer

When I want to deal huge damage and break parts, the Hammer is my weapon of choice. It’s a bit slower, but the power it brings more than makes up for it. There’s something incredibly satisfying about landing a charged hammer blow that knocks out a monster or breaks its parts. Perfect for those who like to deal devastating blows.

Light Bowgun

For those who want a fast, mobile ranged weapon, the Light Bowgun is perfect. It’s less powerful than the Heavy Bowgun, but the ability to move quickly and dodge while still attacking makes it a great choice for those who prefer agility over raw damage.

Great Sword

The Great Sword is a weapon that rewards patience and timing. While it’s slow, the damage it can deal is unparalleled. I love setting up huge charged attacks and landing them when the monster’s vulnerable. It’s a bit of a high-risk, high-reward weapon, but it’s incredibly satisfying when you land a massive blow.

B-Tier Weapons

Switch Axe

The Switch Axe is a great weapon for those who want versatility. It switches between sword and axe modes, allowing for a combination of quick slashes and massive, powerful hits. While it’s fun to use, it requires a bit of learning to understand when to switch between the two modes, but once you get the hang of it, it can be very powerful.

Gunlance

The Gunlance is one of the most unique weapons in the game, combining lance thrusts with explosive shells. While its damage isn’t as high as some other weapons, it’s a great option for players who like to stay at a medium range and want both offensive and defensive capabilities. I find it fun, but it requires careful management of ammo.

Lance

The Lance is a highly defensive weapon that specializes in blocking and countering. While its offensive output may not match some other weapons, its reach and ability to tank hits make it a solid pick for players who prefer a more defensive playstyle. It’s great for hunting in a controlled and careful manner, but it’s not the fastest weapon in the game.

Hunting Horn

The Hunting Horn is a support weapon designed for players who want to buff their team rather than deal the most damage. It’s a bit tricky to get used to, but once you understand how to play it effectively, it can greatly benefit your allies by boosting their damage, defense, and mobility. I use it occasionally in multiplayer hunts when I want to help the team stay buffed.

C-Tier Weapons

Sword & Shield

Although the Sword & Shield is versatile and easy to use, it doesn’t deal as much damage as some other weapons, which is why I’ve placed it in the C tier. It’s a great starting weapon, but in the endgame, you might want something with higher offensive potential.

Hunting Horn

While Hunting Horn has its uses in multiplayer, it falls short in solo hunts. The lack of offensive power makes it a bit less effective for those who prefer dealing damage themselves. It’s more for players who enjoy the support role.

Lance

The Lance is focused on defense, but that also means its offensive capability is quite limited. It’s perfect for players who like to stand their ground and wait for the right moment to strike, but it’s not ideal if you’re after a weapon with high damage output.

Conclusion

Choosing the right weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds ultimately depends on your playstyle and preference. If you’re looking for powerful, high-impact weapons, the S-tier weapons like the Bow, Heavy Bowgun, and Long Sword are excellent choices. For those who want more versatility, A-tier weapons like the Dual Blades and Charge Blade are a great fit. B-tier weapons offer decent power, but they require more skill or a specific playstyle to truly shine, while the C-tier weapons are more niche and best suited for specialized playstyles or multiplayer hunts.

No matter which weapon you choose, the key is to practice and find the one that feels right for you in the heat of battle.
